Facts About Rabbits

What are rabbits:                                                                                                                                                                                     Rabbits are small mammals, Oryctolagus cuniculus includes the European rabbit species and its descendants, the world’s 305 breeds of domestic rabbit. Sylvilagus includes thirteen wild rabbit species, among them the seven types of Cottontail.

Appearance:                                                                           

The males tend to be smaller than females of the same breed, and their heads are more blocked in shape. Females of many medium to larger breeds; also have a large fold of skin below their chins, which is called a dewlap.

What do rabbits eat:

Rabbits love their food and enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables as part of a balanced diet. The main part of a rabbit’s diet should be an unlimited amount of fresh hay (mainly Timothy or Meadow Hay), grass, and a lot of clean water available.

Female and male rabbits:                                                                                                                                                        Much like a dog, a pet rabbit can be taught to come to his/her name, sit in your lap, and do simple tricks. Happy rabbit’s practice a cute behaviour known as a “Binky:” they jump up in the air and twist and spin around! A baby rabbit is called a kit, a female is called a doe, and a male is a buck.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             

Where do rabbits live:                                                                                                                                                                          Rabbit habitats include meadows, woods, forests, grasslands, deserts and wetlands. Rabbits live in groups, and the best-known species, the European rabbit, lives underground burrows, or rabbit hole. A group of burrows is called a warren.
